The Shakespeare Project of Chicago made its long-awaited return to in-person performances of its namesake playwright with Timon of Athens March 9 at the Newberry Library. Directed by Michelle Shupe, the theatrical reading of the lesser-known tragedy marked the company’s first presentation of Shakespeare since March 2020.
In addition to his engagement as the Equity stage manager, Christopher Prentice functioned as associate director and assumed directing duties when the director was absent.
The cast featured Peter Garino as Timon, Richard Shavzin as Apemantus, Erin Sloan as Flavius, and Esther Williamson as Alcibiades, with Rena Ahmed, Josh Bernaski, Isabella Crider, Joe Fernandez, Tim Kough, Dina Monk, Kendal Romero, and Aaron Spencer appearing in multiple roles.
